Quaife-Hobbs and Spavone ready for Curitiba
After getting some hints on the key spots of the Curitiba track from home racer Victor Guerin, it’s time to see how the other drivers of the Auto GP field prepared themselves for the Brazilian race.
Adrian Quaife-Hobbs: “I did some laps on the simulator that gave me a good idea of the track layout, but some key features will be understood just when we get there, like the grip level for example. Judging from what some touring car drivers told us is not so grippy and quite bumpy, so someway similar to Marrakech in terms of tarmac. A lot is unknown, but I’m confident because our set-up so far worked well on both fast tracks and twisty ones. We have a very good base, and then we just need to fine tune, Curitiba shouldn’t be different. What could really change everything is the weather. I never drove the Auto GP car in wet conditions and judging from the forecast we should have rain for the whole weekend, so that could spice-up the things a bit”.
Antonio Spavone: “I didn’t have time to try the track on the simulator yet because I was very busy in the last weeks. I had my high school graduation exams and GP3 commitments at the same time, so it was pretty hectic. I hope I will be able to do some runs on the simulator in the next few days before leaving for Brazil, but in the meantime I watched some videos on Youtube of both cars and motorbikes lapping the circuit. It’s quicker than I expected and I saw some corners that with the Auto GP car should be pretty thrilling.
In the meantime I also kept working on the physical side, because the Auto GP car is very demanding from that standpoint and I felt that I could still improve a lot. I did a lot of aerobic work and I also introduced swimming into my routine, so I should arrive in Curitiba in my best shape ever!”.
